Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today said the government has decided to revoke the allowance for those entering the country to self-quarantine at home.

Speaking during his press briefing in Putrajaya today, the defence minister said the uptick in global Covid-19 cases over the past few days contributed to the increase in the number of domestic cases as Malaysians returned from abroad.

The Health Ministry's daily Covid-19 presser turned into a sombre affair today when its director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced it was the last day on the job for one of his deputies, who had been playing a key role in the battle against the pandemic.

Dr Rohaizat Yon, the ministry's deputy director-general (medical), is going into compulsory retirement after 35 years in service.

Meanwhile, today marked the second day in a row where no new transmission of Covid-19 was detected among Malaysians.

As of mid-day today, the Health Ministry recorded only two new Covid-19 cases in which one case involved a Malaysian returning from abroad and another involving a foreigner.

#KiniNews: Don’t discriminate against foreigners, help them, says Dr Noor Hisham

Malaysia recorded 38 new Covid-19 cases, the majority of which are Malaysians returning from abroad.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 26 of the cases were imported while 12 were local transmissions.

From the imported cases, 20 were Malaysians returning from Egypt, four from Indonesia and two from the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Dr Hisham urged Malaysians to not stigmatise foreign nationals following a spike in cases involving non-Malaysians last week.
